NEW ORLEANS– After substantial conversations and cautious consideration among the Sun Belt Conference Presidents and Chancellors, Sports Directors, SBC COVID-19 Advisory Panel, medical advisors, and other governance groups, the Sun Belt Conference announced today that its football season will begin over Labor Day weekend. Sun Belt member institutions have focused given that June on a safe return to athletic activities. We believe this schedule will permit the healthy combination of the whole school neighborhood for each Sun Belt member. The 2020 Sun Belt Conference football season will be comprised of an 8-conference video game schedule with an option for each member to include as numerous as 4 non-conference challengers, starting with Week No. The Sun Belt will host a football championship game on December 5 between the East Department and West Department champs. If necessary, the date of the national championship might be changed. The Sun Belt Conference will continue to monitor health trends across our neighborhoods. Sun Belt Presidents and Chancellors, Sports Directors, the COVID-19 Advisory Panel, and medical advisors will continue to examine data to make sure a safe go back to activities and competition. Our data evaluation will cross seven states and 12 counties and consist of, among other things, infection rates, hospitalization rates, local health directives, developments in COVID-19 screening and school, department and team health patterns.
